DAISY AVANTI 853c Competition Rifle
The classic NRA Junior competition rifle! Ideal for shooters 16 and up (with adult supervision) to learn to shoot in 10-meter competition.
Most impressive is the crowned Lothar Walther barrel. It's precision-bored for .177 match pellets, has 12 lands and grooves, and a right-hand twist. It also has a double barrel weight. The front sight has interchangeable aperture inserts, and the rear diopter sight is micrometer adjustable. The included sling helps the shooter steady the rifle.
This competition model is so accurate that most shooters will not outgrow the rifle's potential. Although official competition rules do not allow scopes, the rifle has a dovetail scope mount in the dye cast receiver in the event you want to use it for shooting other targets or just for fun.
Note: This gun will not fire correctly with out the 5 round clip.

Question?
Login to ask someone who bought this product.I can't tell from the picture. Is this a peep sight gun or open (iron sight) I am looking for an open sight gun around this price point for 4H competitions.
asked PaulOur rotc unit uses these, they have open circle sights
Sam CampbellIs this unit any good for squirrel hunting?
asked ArthurI would have to say yes. However, you should be careful about range. I personally would not exceed more than ten yards and then only use top quality pointed pellets. Please remember that these answers are only suggested values and not absolutes. I use a RWS model 48 spring high power for backyard hunting but it will also kill a wild brush pig weighing about 150 pounds out to about 30 yards. The pellet travels at about 1150 fps and it's only a 177 caliber. I believe that if you stick to the pointed style pellet, and stay with in about 10 yards (30 feet), you will have your squirrel. You must remember that 500 fps is not going to give allot of umf. Hope this answer is what you needed to know.
Gary from USANo! Squirrels are too tough, at 500 fps this is not nearly powerful enough except maybe at 5 yards. Try a RWS 34 in .22 caliber for squirrel hunting. They are also very accurate and hit 4x harder.
Billy from USAI have one of the 953's that was manufactured in '83 and sent to the US National Shooting team in '84. Long story as to how I got it, but yes, it should be good for squirrels. Extremely accurate and powerful and pretty cool.
EddieDo you ship in Québec, Canada ? Can we put 1 pellet one at a time (without 5 shot clip) and rear sight is ajustable? Thanks

Scott from USAHow well is it for hunting squirrels?
asked Justin@ only 500fps, I wouldn't normally recommend this shooter for anything other than a common Sparrow, or Grackle(Starlings), But, with this gun's outstanding accuracy it has what it takes to consistently make that all important head-shot, and with proper pellet selection, I'm sure that a Rabbit can be taken "Humanely" , But I wouldn't take that shot regardless of how accurate the rifle is outside of 25 yds. So, If you can get within 25 yds, and have the rifle loaded with good "Hunting" ammo, (Gamo Hunters are extremely accurate, and have the weight to get the job done), Then go for it!,,Also, Don't forget that your ammo selection will be limited to what will fit into the gun's magazine, So, Long Pointed pellets will be difficult to shoot, unless you go with Crosman, or Daisy "Field Point's, But for punching paper, I highly recommend using H&N "Finale Match Rifle", @ 8.18gr,. it's got good weight, and it's available in three different head sizes, so you can really "fine-tune" your shooting capabilities . Hope this help's. Cheer's, Andy.

When cadets was still in, I would go to marksmanship and it would be the best time ever with this rifle. It was really enjoyable, and my dad and I are thinking about getting one :)
