Pros
Insane Power, Hear that Crack on Pretty Much any Pellet you fire Through it, GAMO PBA Very Loud sounds like a 22LR Out of this Rifle, Over All the Big Cat 1400 is Very Accurate Often Put Pellets Through the Same Hole Firing from the Bench, Light weight for the Most Part First few Cocks out of the Box Are Hard , But Unbelievable Power.
Cons
It's Loud Any Pellet under 8 gr is Most likely Going to Go Supersonic If you Got Neighbors they Might Complain, Also the Scope That Gamo Sends with it is Going to eventually Fail , My Cross Hairs Begin to Separate , Paint inside the scope started to Flake and Fall on the Cross Hairs Very Powerful recoil.
Question?
Login to ask someone who bought this product. Is the barrel a smooth bore or spiral bore?
asked DanielI received this very model as a gift and it is all over the target at 25 feet, yes,...feet, 2 foot groups. Can I ask you if the rifling comes all the way to the muzzle end, mine does not, it is smooth bore for the last 1/4 inch or so, like a pellet length, at the breech the rifling is all the way back flush with the end of the barrel. I don't know why they would engineer the gun this way, makes no sense to me. Of all the firearms and pellet guns I own, dozens of rifles from .22 rimfire up to 45-70, 8 pistols, maybe 20 air guns, not one that has a rifled barrel ends the rifling a 1/4 inch from the end of the barrel. Seems to me like the barrel was molded into the plastic backwards. Gamo rep said that is the way they are all made?
asked tedDoes it reach the 1400 fps velocity with standard lead pellets or does it need the raptors to reach it?
asked Josh lacosteDoes it make a lot of noise when shooting? Concerning neighbors Thanks
asked Van Bogaert from BelgiumYes, but I'm out of town, so it's all good.
JeffThe description says medium to loud. This rifle requires 41 lbs to cock. That's on the heavy side. Use heavy pellets to bring down the noise. This rifle is too powerful for light pellets. Heavy pellets should get the velocity down to under 1000fps, which is below the sound barrier.
Victor from Afghanistansince I live with neighbors around me, do you think this thing is too loud?
asked Jacobsounds like a small .22 caliber rifle not recommended for Chicago Il
Brannon ClarkIt cracks like a 22, so it's a little loud.... may want to silencer it. I dont know if they offer one, just saying...
Jeffwhat is the kill distant for lets say a rat or mouse ground squirrel? sounds like a good rifle I have other reg. rifles but this would help, for practicing shooting
asked RoyI have a big cat with a 1250 fps . It use to drop both rabbit and squirrel, now the pellet just bounces off and scares them. I've replaced the gun once already because of the same problem. I'm now in the market for a different gun.
DarellI answered this question yesterday, but I guess it was rejected. I'll try again. Most .177 caliber air-rifles aren't accurate beyond 25 yards. By that I mean able to hold tight 10 shot groups. In other words, consistently. You want to make humane kills and that requires consistent accuracy. If I say that I can hit a can at 50 yards 9 out of 10 times, then the gun isn't accurate enough for hunting at that distance. Again, 25 yards tends to be the limit for most spring-piston rifles. Try shooting targets with low to moderate wind and you'll see your groups open up quite a bit. The lighter the pellet, the more easily it will get pushed around by wind. Look around for reviews that include actual tests for accuracy. 10 shot groups at 25 yards is the gold standard (not 3 or 5).
Victor from AfghanistanBeing a .177 caliber air-rifle of such power, you'll want to use heavy pellets, like Crosman Heavy Premiers (or equivalent). Know that stated velocities are ALWAYS gross exaggeration's (even outright lies). With a practical pellet (heavy and accurate), you're looking at velocities of about 900fps. With good technique (e.g., the artillery hold), you should be able to reliably shoot 10 shot groups of about 2" at 25 yards. That said, this class of air-rifle is capable of humane kills out to 25 yards. Anything outside of 25 yards is likely to not be humane, as it will rely on luck. It's not enough for one to say that they've "dropped" something at distance X. What matters is what can be done almost 100% at distance Y. I own over a dozen air-rifles, and the best spring-piston in this class aren't reliably accurate beyond 25 yards. At 50 yards the wind will blow a .177 pellet all over the place. You might get lucky, but that's about it. Of course, I'm assuming that you care about humane kills. Again, look into HEAVY pellets for a gun like this. One last thing. This rifle requires a great deal of force to cock. You must do so correctly or you'll damage it. STAY AWAY FROM ALLOY PELLETS (the kind used to reach such high velocities), they will damage the rifle. Hope this helps.
Victor from AfghanistanI drop birds from about 60-70 yards with a gamo 1000 fps with very minimal bullet drop. Hope that gives you a ball park idea.
BlakeWhat is the difference between a gas piston and spring piston?
asked David
Yes it is load , has a noticeable recoil . I'm using RWS's Meisterkueln pellets and up graded to a Bushnell Banner scope VERY accurate at 175ft . It has a lot of power will pass through 3/4 ply and leave a GOOD dint in metal back stops . LOCK TIGHT scope rings as the recoil will work it magic . Stock fits very nicely and isn't to heavy . Breaking barrel take a little strength . Don't think you can find another rifle at this price to match it
Pros
POWER FULL , Accurate (with right pellets) , VERY nice fit , Solid , Nice weight , Price is very good
Cons
Upgrade scope required , Load
