This Hawke Optics scope has an etched glass reticle which is superior to a wire reticle because it's much more precise. That lets you get even more accuracy from your gun. Another way that etched glass reticles are superior to wire reticles is when they're illuminated. The etched ones show the illumination only on the reticle. It looks like the reticle is floating. Wire reticles often have a reflection of the illumination in the objective lens which can be distracting when shooting.

asked Kim from CanadaCan I use the Hawke Vantage IR 3-9x50 AO on a Gamo Swarm Magnum .22.
asked Antonio from USAif it's a hard kicker you might want a hawke airmax to handle the recoil. i use one on my rws 350 with no problems
Dennis from USADoes the illumination stay on or is it switched on and off, also if it's on all the time how long does the battery last, can it be used without the illumination?
asked Paul from USAthe illumination has an on/off switch. The battery lasts months . The scope can easily be used without the illumination on.

i use a benchrest hold on my 48 and use the red reticle for nite work. i did all the zeroing of the hawke in one afternoon and had to quit early when i saw my neighbor throw a rope with a hangman's noose over a limb on his maple tree lol. i've dropped 3 rabbits so far at 30 plus yds. with this rws48 and hawke combo and will do more.
Pros
50mm really brings in the low light image and the illuminated reticle makes night hunting rabbits easy(flood lite on garage near backyard garden) from a table on the back porch. the hawke is mounted on my rws 48 using hn 17.13 gr. silver point pills. i was worried about the hawke being unable to handle the 48's recoil but after trying 10 different pellet configs. and about 250 shots the zero is still right on. maybe the all up weight of the gun tamed the recoil a bit. this scope is a great buy; a little pricey but solid!!
