I ordered this since I own a couple Smith and Wesson firearms and thought it would be the best practice tool, but in hindsight performance is more important. Muscle memory translates pretty well between different handguns and I find myself using my other blowback BB guns that have better efficiency, accuracy, and faster loading mechanisms despite their cheaper appearance and construction.
This gun is better suited for display, fidgeting, cosplay or some other geekery than actual shooting.
Pros
Looks and feels great with good weight and realistic slide action. Very light trigger that is pretty faithful to the original, even down to the pivoting drop safety. Can even be field stripped.
Cons
Loading the magazine is horrendous even with a speed loader. The follower has no lock position so you need to keep the powerful spring contracted with just your fingernail while you load BBs into the small loading port. The Umarex speed loader does not couple with the magazine. Break action looks cool but unfortunately wastes huge amounts of gas with every shot, giving you only about 40 useful shots per canister. The canister setting nug has been upgraded to metal so it won't wear down as prior reviews complained, but having to re-align the threads every time you exchange canisters gets tedious. Accuracy was mediocre.
Decent pistol, reasonably accurate, fun to shoot.
Pros
I like this better than my Crossman Vigilante. Very solid, great action, extremely realistic copy, feels right. Fairly loud, which I like but could be a negative for others.
Cons
I get 35-40 shots from a CO2 canister, 40 is absolutely tops. So it?s a canister hog, that?s not quite 3 loads of BBs and your done. Loosely translated, about every 5 minutes you have to change CO2. Also when I got it, new out of the box, the slide catch jammed immediately. Had to take the pins out, fully disassemble, and reassemble from the start. Fortunately a YouTube video had the problem and showed how to deal with it. Umarex customer service failed completely, taking the IT equivalent of ?did you plug in the machine?.
Great looking gun but by the time i got it foe my birthday the 30 day warranty is over and it doesn't hold co2 anymore and can swe a break in the metal of the gun
Fits in all M&P 40 holsters . Looks and feels like the real firearm. Very well made !
Pros
Not over priced ! No leaks of the CO2 A must for all collectors.
Cons
None ! And I mean that !
I carry an M&P 9C, and this BB pistol is perfect for VERY inexpensive close combat training.
The weight and action is so very close to my 9C that I can comfortably practice draw and stance that carry's over to range work.
Now, it'd be PERFECT but for the below issue which is YUGE ..... hopefully it will be addressed.....
After 4 cartridge loads, the mags started loosing pressure EXCESSIVELY during the piercing process.
Seems like the seal had compressed and did not retain it's sealing density.
Have recently returned for exchange. Hopefully the exchanged will be positive.
Pros
VERY closely resembles my carry gun, M&P9c
Cons
The magazine / cO2 pressure issue as described above.
Nice little handy pistol. Great weight compare to 1911 or 92fs.
Pros
Three white dot sights, blowback action, full metal mag, rail system, light trigger...
Cons
The build quality can be better.
Bought a refurbished one for training as I carry the real thing (in 9mm). Its so close in look, weight, and feel that one could confuse it for the real deal in a stressful situation. I added a strip of bright blue tape to the slide for this reason and will not store the two in the same place. Fits perfect in my holsters, though it is slightly thinner than a real M&P. Will be buying an extra mag soon for mag change training. Blowback is smooth and is enough to simulate fairly realistic recoil. If you have a real M&P, do yourself a favor and buy this air gun; can't beat the training seeing as ammo and range time is so expensive.
Pros
Great construction
Realistic mag capacity
Nice blowback
Cons
None so far
Hey, I have my share of airsoft pistols, and I enjoy shooting them. BUT, this is a top notch replica of a S&W M&P 40. I have purchased a number of refurbished guns from Airgundepot and have been satisfied with all of them. Refurbed from Airgundepot means quality to me!
Pros
Ships with 3 custom grip inserts fo fit anybody's hand.
Light weight, and feels good
Blowback is great.
Dotted sights are better with 70YO eyes!
Cons
If you can call a frame mounted safety on a bb pistol that doesn't exist on an authentic pistol I guess this could be a con. But, then again, this pistol shoots BBs, not .40 S&W.
Nothing else wrong with this pistol.
I found this pistol to be special enough to get it its own leather shoulder holster ---- no other pistol goes into this holster !!
Pros
Near-perfect replica of actual S&W MP40 in weight, design etc. Feels great in the hand & option of three grips covers most, if not all, hand types. Powerful, yet more economical, than other full-blowback pistols. White dotted sights (3), all-metal drop-out magazine & well-balanced weight distribution makes this my favorite/best pistol 'most' of the time !!
Cons
As with all types of CO2 / BB-filled drop-out magazines, care has to be given in not screwing on plug too tightly. Even then, it doesn't guarantee that a magazine will make it to the 30-day warranty. I'm not a beginner, so I make sure to take care in loading my CO2 into the magazine. I wish they would make the plugs in brass instead of rubber/plastic. If you're a daily shooter like I am, those plugs begin to wear when tightening & may stay stuck in the mag due to loss of threading.

asked GurwinderHi, my slide is jammed. Is there another way to get the slide off if I cannot get it to pull back at all?
asked Dieter from USACan the safety be turned on/off from the left side of the gun, or only the right? Also, can the mag be released from the left side of the gun, or is it adjustable to be able to do so? Thanks!
asked ScottGranted a smooth bore BB isn't an accurate weapon. But - at 10 meters - can it at least hold a 1" group?

Despite the shortcomings, I enjoy firing this BB pistol. It's a superb looking replica too!
Pros
Looks and feels awesome. Very well balanced and comfortable in the hand. Blowback and recoil is really good and strong, but eats C02 very quickly. Very easy to field strip. Trigger is long and very smooth - just the way I like it. White dot sights and front sight is adjustable for windage. Full size magazine is nice. Additional backstraps are included so you can find a good fit. Packaged in a nice box.
Cons
White warnings are a turn off for me. Metal slide has too much side to side play. Polymer plastic is decent but not of high quality and feels a bit cheap. Safety is mushy and vague. Accuracy is not very good and mine shoots low and to the left. I can adjust the windage but not the elevation. Magazine bottom piercing cap is very difficult to screw in. Takes a lot of patience to get the threads to start grabbing. Very easy to cross thread if you are not very careful. Magazine spring follower has to be held down with finger nail while BB's are loaded and the spring pressure is very high. Eats C02 quickly - can only shoot 2.5 magazines before gas is depleted.
