Stoeger Pellet Review

I have had the opportunity to test and review some of the new Stoeger airgun pellets that are now available. I received 7 tins of various 177 pellets to do a review of and the first thing I noticed is the packaging as it really got my attention. As far as pellet tins go these are bright and attractive and most importantly the lids have a good tight fit as they have some dimples that keep the lid from just pulling off. How many of you have picked up a tin of pellets and the lid slip off and the you spend an hour picking pellets up out of the grass? Well it wont happen with these tins. These pellets are made in Germany and I got to wonderingwho made them. The big surprise was when I started opening the tins to inspect them I found them to be a very high quality pellet and a close and I mean very close resemblance to HN pellets. My bet is they come from the samemanufacturer and Stoeger private labels them.

The first item of business was to to check for weight consistency which is important because if the weight is consistent from pellet to pellet it will ultimately lead to better accuracy. I took 30 pellets out of each tin and weighed them one at a time and kept a record of the differences in weight. I found all to be within..01 to.02 grains of one another (which is very good) except for the X MAGNUM pellets. I did find a difference of .5 grains in the X Magnum which is quiet a difference and can sometimes lead to a "flier" where you will be shooting a tight group and then have a pellet that is way off. I did get a surprise out of the X SPEED pellets Ihit something smaller than a barn door with them. One other thing I will mention is I noticed on a few of the pellets some heavy pellets were actually faster than some lighter pellets.

In my review I used two air rifles to test these pellets. The first was a Benjamin Discovery PCP .177 Air Rifle. The second was my Weihrauch HW-97 Air Rifle. It's important to note that every airgun will shoot pellets differently. One pellet that may work great for one air rifle may not work great for another so it's important to test different types of pellets with your airgun until you find some that your airgun likes.

XMagnums - These were the big boys of the pellets. They were fairly accurate as you can tell by the targets. I did however have trouble loading them in the port they were a very tight fit in the breech. I would also like to say I did not find one bent skirt on this group of pellets which attests the manufacturing quality and packaging of the Stoeger line. I did find the most weight difference.

XSpeed - These were the rockets of the bunch and yes if you look at the charts they really do increase the speed by 25 percent, I have tried some gamo raptures before and I could not hit a good size foot square but these really surprised me they shot some very good groups. I was not fond of shooting them in my springer but even at the speeds I never heard the distinct crack but I could tell the pellets were way to light for most springers. These pellets are better suited for a PCP airgun or a lower powered springer.

XMatch - These guys were hot, alsothey were very accurate but not the best of the bunch for my particular air gun.

XPower - Talk about a pretty pellet now these looked like you opened a tin of gold they were fairly accurate but they also were hard to load almost to the point of bending the pellet skirts.

XHunt - The speeds on these were higher than the round nose I suppose it’s the shape of the pellet I did find they were accurate.

XField - These were my pick of the bunch I shot one holers, I had my air rifle sighted in with HN field trail 8.64 and when I shot these it was quiet obvious they were the same pellet as HN which I was sure of from the beginning.

XSport - A greatplinker pellet pretty good accuracy a bit on the light side but all these pellets shot well, I never touched the scope adjustments on my air rifle from the start it was sighted in with the HN pellets.

Conclusion: I would not hesitate to purchase these pellets in the future. It's great to have another high end brand of pellets to choose from and I was impressed by the overall quality and accuracy of these pellets.
