Best Accessories for Bullpup Airguns

The Air Venturi Avenger Bullpup has hit the market in early 2022, and it’s a great way to kick off this article. The first thing we need to discuss is what is a bullpup? Traditionally, manufacturers would simply create a short profile carbine version of a long gun. It was shorter, lighter but often gave up some accuracy and power. Bullpup rifles were created in response to a need for compact, easy to maneuver firepower without sacrificing power, range, and accuracy. Rather than shortening the barrel, they brought the entire action rearward, maintaining the original barrel length. This completely changed the balance of the weapon, putting the weight in line with the shooter’s body instead of hanging out in front. The result was the bullpup design, delivering full power, range, and accuracy with a much more compact profile that was easier to handle in tight spaces.

Stabilize your Bullpup

If you are a bench shooter, you may find that the bullpup form factor brings some inherent challenges. The most noticeable we’ve found is the higher center of gravity. Because the barrel is essentially in line with the buttstock, the scope has to be higher off the receiver. Unfortunately, this design puts the scope high above the action, leading to the gun wanting to rock left to right, making consistent accuracy hard to achieve.

Best Avenger Bullpup Bi-Pod: Bi-Pod UTG Heavy Duty 360

Airguns like the Air Venturi Avenger Bullpup will often have a weaver rail under the forearm for accessories. A stable bipod like the UTG Big Bore Full Stability Bi-pod will provide a wide stance making the entire shooting system more stable. This particular bi-pod is best for the bench as it’s heavy and very rugged. If you are using your bullpup airgun in various conditions, you may want to look at some lighter option bi-pods like any of the UTG Heavy Duty 360 options. They are rugged, stable, and work in various environments besides bench rest shooting.

Scope Mounts for your Bullpup

When picking a scope for your bullpup airgun, you need to consider a few things. First is the height of the scope rings. As mentioned above, you will most likely need to have very high rings so that the eye relief falls into a comfortable position. The bore position relative to the buttstock is similar to that of an AR. The rail on the AR helps get your optics to a more natural and comfortable position. This will be the same with most bullpups. Finally, while it’s the convention to have the scope as close to the receiver as possible, it’s not practical with a bullpup design.

Best Avenger Bullpup Rifle Mounts: FX No Limit Rings

Let’s look at rings first. Rings like the FX No Limit rings will give you the greatest flexibility when mounting your optic. Not only should they give you the necessary height, but they also adjust for angle, allowing you to center your optic for long-range shooting with the mounts. This leaves the full range of MOA adjustments for fine-tuning your point of impact. Of course, there are other options as well; just make sure that you don’t go with rings that will leave you too short, or you’ll get a terrible crick in your neck trying to shoot your bullpup.

Optics for your Bullpup

Best Avenger Bullpup Optic: Hawke Airmax Compact Scope

Ideally, you’ll want to find a scope that fits the profile of your airgun. Bullpups lend themselves to compact profiles and lightweight maneuverability. If you’re looking to maintain that concept, look for smaller, lightweight, compact scopes like the Hawke Airmax Compact. It has a full range of features like great optical clarity, a 30mm tube, side focus, and an etched glass reticle. In addition, the shorter profile of the Hawke Airmax compact makes it ideally suited for bullpup airguns.

Operation & Diagnostics

Best Avenger Bullpup Compressor: Air Venturi Nomad II

Now that you have your bullpup all decked out with a killer bipod and scope, you need to be able to fill it and also measure its performance. Filling your PCP airgun has gotten a lot easier with products like the Air Venturi Nomad II, Hill EC-3000, and the Umarex ReadyAir. Each of these options will work well to direct fill your PCP airgun. A carbon fiber tank and the Air Venturi 4500 compressor are great options if you want to be more mobile. Whatever you choose, make sure that your filling solution will be able to fill your bullpup airgun to the necessary pressure for optimal operation.

Best Avenger Bullpup Chrony: FX Pocket Chronograph

The last accessory we’ll recommend for today’s article is the FX Pocket Chronograph. We’ve found this handy tool to be exceptionally useful. Not only does it provide accurate feedback regarding your airgun’s performance, but it also operates off radar vs. light sensors. You can attach it to your bullpup and shoot at anything while at the same time capturing valuable performance data on your mobile device. We simply love it.
