Best Gamo Air Rifles

While many manufacturers are creating breakbarrel airguns for the general use, entry-level airgun market, there’s one manufacturer that continues to provide innovative solutions.  Gamo USA, and their recent Gen 3i series, is a great example of what we are talking about.  Gamo’s focus on Adult Precision Airguns isn’t limited to PCPs but translates all the way down their product stack.  Let’s talk about some of the best Gamo Air Rifles on the market today.

Common Features on ALL the Current Gamo Break Barrel Airguns

Gamo has really innovated with multiple layers of great features that are found on their entire line of Gen 3i rifles.  Let’s start with the SAT trigger.  It’s about a 2-pound trigger that has some level of adjustment. It’s very consistent and has a very predictable break.  We know shooters probably want less pull weight, but we believe Gamo has found a good balance of safety and usability here.

Next, you have the Recoil Reducing Rail that provides a buffer between the scope and the receiver.  This small rail helps reduce the shock traditionally transmitted to the scope from the impact of the piston in the compression chamber.  This feature helps make sure that your scope lasts and stays on target.

Most of Gamo’s break barrels have some form of Whisper sound suppression technology on board.  Some, like the Viper and Bone collector, have it integrated into the barrel shroud. The Fusion and the Magnum have an integrated “can” at the end of the barrel.  The Fusion actually has both a shrouded barrel and the “can,” making it the quietest of Gamo’s current break barrel offerings.

Gamo has become the “master of the multi-shot” break barrel.  Gamo’s SWARM system has gone through many upgrades. The most recent version, the Gen 3i, incorporates a rotating magazine assembly and the newly upgraded inertia-driven magazines.  Rather than automatically moving a new pellet into the loading port, which can lead to accidentally double feeding, the inertia-driven magazine only advances after the shot. The recoil from the gun trips the magazine catch, allowing the cylinder to rotate and get ready for the next shot.  It’s a cool feature that makes the multi-shot system better and safer. Now let’s talk about the guns.

New for 2023, Gamo released the Viper Gen 3i.  This entry-level break barrel is an upgraded version of the Maxxim.  It has an upgraded stock with nice rubber inserts and a cheek riser.  It’s lightweight, comfortable, easy to cock, and has the power for small game hunting.  It’s very accurate and easy to shoot.

Gamo Fusion Gen 3i

The Gamo Swarm Fusion Gen 3i may be our favorite of the new line of Gen 3i products. It incorporates all the best of Gamo’s tech, creating a super quiet, easy to cock, and very accurate break barrel.  It’s also very lightweight, making it wonderful for a long day of hunting out in the woods.

If you want more power from your breakbarrel, you need more air volume or pressure. You can do this by increasing the force of the gas ram, but that has the negative effect of making the airgun harder to cock.  You can increase the length of the air chamber, but that can make the gun very long and front heavy.  Or, you can increase the diameter of the compression chamber, and that’s exactly what Gamo did with the new Bone Collector Gen 3i.

Sitting between the Viper and Fusion, the new Bone Collector pushes well over 20 foot-pounds while still being very easy to cock. The wood stock adds to the stability and looks great.  It’s no wonder this is one of Gamo’s best-selling airguns.

The Gamo Swarm Magnum Gen 3i rounds out today’s list of Gamo guns.  It’s long and hard to cock, but it delivers over 30 foot-pounds of energy in .22 caliber. And, as long as you keep your shots under the sound barrier, typically about 1100 fps, it’s very quiet.  If you want the best Gamo break barrel for hunting at 50+ yards, then the Gamo Swarm Magnum is the way to go.

That’s a Wrap
