Our Favorite Affordable Backyard Airguns

Airguns are ideal for shooters who want to get in some needed trigger time.  Today, we’ll look at some ideal backyard shooters that won’t break the bank.  We’ve picked some pistols, multi-pump rifles, CO2 airguns, breakbarrel airguns, and even a budget PCP.  Let’s get started.

Beeman P17 Pellet Pistol

Beeman P17 Pellet Pistol

The Beeman P17 Pellet Pistol is a single-shot, single-stroke pneumatic pellet pistol.  It features a fiber optic front sight and a fully adjustable rear sight. Additionally, it has one of the nicest triggers you can find in any airgun, at any price. Pushing pellets at up to 410 FPS, the Beeman P17 is a great airgun for pistol practice.

Crosman 1377C / PC77 Pellet Pistol

Crosman 1377C / PC77 Pellet Pistol

Multi-pump airguns are a mainstay for backyard plinking.  The Crosman 1377C is one of the most popular options ever created.  It features a single shot bolt action, textured polymer grip, fixed front sight, and a fully adjustable rear sight. Power can be adjusted based on the number of pumps.  With up to 600 FPS on tap, target shooting is not your only option.  The 1377 has brought down many pests too.

Daisy 880

Daisy 880 multi-pump pneumatic

Another nostalgic, affordable backyard multi-pump pneumatic is the Daisy 880.  Boasting a max velocity of 750 FPS with steel BBS, the 880 is not only fun to shoot but also powerful.  It features a rifled steel barrel, a fixed front sight with an adjustable rear sight, an 11mm dovetail for mounting an optic, and a bolt action cocking system. Able to shoot both BBs and Pellets, the Daisy 880 delivers affordable trigger time with the option to drive lead pellets with power and accuracy.

Gamo Varmint .177 Cal

For airgunners looking to shoot larger pests on a budget, the Gamo Varmint .177 combo could be a good starting point. The Gamo Varmint features a powerful spring-piston power plant, rifled steel barrel, ambidextrous synthetic Monte Carlo stock, and a 4×32 scope.  It can shoot alloy pellets up to 1250 FPS and lead pellets around 1000 FPS.  It’s a very fun airgun for the backyard.

Crosman RepeatAir 1077 TAC

Crosman RepeatAir 1077 TAC pellet rifle

We’re not sure if Crosman pioneered CO2 airguns into the mainstream, but they certainly have a lot to offer airgunners today.  The Crosman RepeatAir 1077 TAC is a version of the old 1077 but in a tactical stock.  Featuring a 12-round .177 pellet magazine, the 1077 TAC can drive pellets up to 625 FPS as fast as you can pull the trigger.  It also features a rifled steel barrel, open sights with the rear sight adjustable for windage and elevation, a Picatinny optics rail, and a single-stage trigger.

Ruger 10/22 Kit

Ruger 10/22 Kit

The Ruger 10/22 is a classic firearm, however, it’s not really suitable for most backyards. The airgun version is ideal for affordable backyard airgun fun.  The Ruger 10/22 kit comes with four 10-shot rotary magazines, two CO2 cartridges, and five paper targets.  All you’ll need are some pellets and a clear space to get in some trigger time. The dual action trigger advances the rotary magazine while firing the airgun, shooting pellets at up to 490 FPS.  It’s a true one-to-one replica.

Crosman Vantage NP Scope Combo .177 Cal

Crosman Vantage NP Scope Combo

Crosman is a brand long established as a provider of affordable and reliable airguns.  The Crosman Vantage NP Scope Combo .177 is a great example of what Crosman brings to the airgunning table.  The Vantage NP features Crosman’s nitro pistol power plant, rifled steel barrel, fiber optic sights with the rear sight being fully adjustable, and can shoot up to 1200 FPS with lead-free pellets.  It’s accurate, powerful, and very affordable, suitable for target shooting, pesting, or small game hunting in the backyard. Additionally, it includes a bundled optic for those who would rather run a scope vs. open sights.

Umarex Syrix

Hatsan Model 95 Vortex Combo “Regular” model

Hatsan Mod 95 Vortex break barrel air rifle

The Hatsan Model 95 Combo “Regular” Model is a little more expensive than the other options we’ve listed so far, but it also offers a lot more to budget airgunners.  The regular model differs from the QE model in that it does not have an integrated moderator, but all the other attributes are the same. The Hatsan Mod 95 Vortex features a Turkish walnut stock, adjustable Quattro Trigger, fiber optic open sights with a micro-click adjustable rear sight, rifled steel barrel, and a 3-9×32 scope.   Power on the Mod 95 .22 caliber tops out at 800 FPS with lead pellets.  The Mod 95 is more than just a backyard plinking airgun, it’s a serious small-game hunting airgun for those on a budget.

Gamo Arrow

Lastly, we have one of the most budget-friendly PCP airguns on the market.  The Gamo Arrow PCP is a compact and lightweight PCP airgun that operates from a 232 BAR fill.  The small cylinder is easily filled with a hand pump, making the Arrow an excellent choice for those who want to test the waters of PCP airgunning without going “all-in.”  The Gamo Arrow is available in .177 and .22 calibers and features a multi-shot magazine, adjustable trigger, all-weather ambidextrous synthetic stock, fiber optic open sights with a fully adjustable rear sight, ambidextrous “T” cocking handle, rifled steel barrel and Gamo’s patented integrated Whisper moderator.  This incredibly quiet airgun is perfect for backyard plinking, pesting, or serious target practice.
