Overall, I really like this rifle. I have to give it four stars because I do have some complaints. I will get to those at the end of this report. let me start by telling you all that I like about the gun.
I have the .22 version and this is the smoothest shooting spring airgun I have ever shot out of the box. It has a smooth silent cocking stroke that locks firmly with a satisfying crunch. The vibration reduction technology really works as evidenced by the dull thud sound the rifle makes when fired; no twang, vibration, or drama. As a side note, if your really this smooth, vibrationless feature you should buy the .22 version. I also have the .177 version (Master Ultra) and while it too is a great gun, it has a little more power (about 14 foot pounds rather than 12) and with that comes a bit of vibration more noise. The tigger is light and crisp right out of the box so i did not need to adjust it for my taste. The adjustable comb on the Competition Ultra is a feature I am very excited about, although I have yet to use it because I have not yet mounted an optic. The build quality is very good. The rifle is clearly of very good quality, yet the blueing on the rifle is not as deep, rich and smooth as my air arms TX 200.
My main complaint: The Fiber optic sights. They work okay but I really prefer plain iron sights like I have on my LGV Master ultra. It is much easier to get a consistent hold and precise sight picture with iron sights. I think Walther should get rid of the fiber optic sights and offer the iron ones on each version of the LGV, not just the Master ultra. Another complaint is that, on my particular rifle, I the gun shoots slightly to the left at 20 yards and there is not enough adjustment in the rear sight to compensate for it. I plan to mount a scope that will hopefully be able to work this out but this is disappointing.
Pros
-smooth (esp. in .22)
-quiet (esp. in .22)
-accurate
-adjustable comb stock
Cons
-fiber optic sights
-my gun has a bit of sight/barrel misalignment.
-the .177 version is a little higher powered = less smooth to shoot and louder
bought march 19 2015,can see impact as rifle is solid have 3-9-50 hawke scope have shot all types of ammo, and seems that Crossman premier 10.5 is shooting 1/2-3/4" groups some smaller at 30yds from bench with a flyer. rifle is very quite,i shoot around deer and cats they could care less. bought the lgv for one thing accuracy and got it , thks walther
Pros
quite and accuracy
Cons
weight
I have been searching for a 177 Walther LGV for about 6 months since they have become discontinued. Air gun depot fortunately offered some refurbed guns for resale at a very good price. I immediately ordered one and in less than a weeks time it on my doorstep. Upon opening the box and examining the gun I was very pleased to see it was in perfect condition with only two very small imperfection on the stock that were barely noticeable. A little cherry wood stain applied to the marks and they disappeared . overall I am very pleased with my purchase and the value for my dollars.
Pros
This is the very best spring gun I have ever owned in terms of recoil and smoothness of cocking and the shot cycle. I currently own several high end spring guns and this gun is by far the best all around as far as smoothness, lock time, recoil, and hold sensitivity. it is a one hole tack driver with JSB and AA 8.44s at 850 fps for a solid 14 fpe FT gun. I am so glad I took the chance on a refurbed gun when buying this LGV as it is as good if not better than a brand new gun at a considerable saving over the full retail price. I truly love this gun and would buy it again if I had the chance. Thank you AGD for offering this gun as a refurb for sale.
Cons
My only con for this gun and its not really a con since its weight actually contributes to it smoothness and fast lock time. It is a heavier gun than most other spring guns in its class at 10.1 pounds but that is part of its attributes in making it such a great gun. The weight is more an issue of my body's inadequacies of being able to hold the gun steady in the off hand and kneeling position encountered during FT matches. It just means I need to condition my body to be able to steady the gun while shooting. That is the only downside to this gun I can come up with at this time.
