Shot it once in the backyard and all three of my neighbors called to ask "What was that?"

Pros
Well built Good Price Fast shipment Nice little target gizmo

Cons
WAY TOO LOUD!!!!! This gun is louder than my .17HMR.

Very impressive air rifle. The Air gun depot price was $50.00 less than I could find it locally on sale and close to $100.00 less when not on sale, I purchased the varmint hunter because this year I was being over run with woodchucks, they were under my barn, under my sheds, and in my horse pastures. after a little practice at targets with this rifle I no longer have a problem with woodchucks ! One of my neighbors also has a Gamo air rifle and they are just plain old fun and economical to shoot, The one thing that impressed me was that after the sale and receipt of the rifle, air gun depot sent an email containing shooting tips, articles, and printable targets. A great company to deal with !!

Pros
Accurate after some practice,

Cons
A little loud when shooting alloy pellets but in the country that's not a problem. ( pretty close to what a 22 short sounds like.)

This gun is incredible, extremely accurate, and fast. I love the scope. It was very easy to mount and an ease to sight in. The light and laser are also very nice touches. The light is a lot brighter than I expected.

Pros
Very sturdy gun and accurate.

Very nice. Grips makes a big difference on trigger control and handling of a gun. Light, and the laser makes this a sweet setup for squirrels and also rodent hunting at night.

Pros
Basically the whole setup.

The firearm was visually nice and easy to operate. The only trouble was sighting in the rifle with the supplied scope. The scope is so far off initially, it takes a lot of time and effort to sight the scope in. Otherwise the product was great.

I was impressed when I opened the scope box and it was already squared up in the rings with the light and laser already mounted on the scope. This is one powerful rifle. It shoots like a 22 rifle. Very nice pellet rifle.

Pros
One cock to load and shoot. I like everything about it. A good purchase.

I was frustrated with this gun at first but once I figured out the artillery hold and found the right pellets I could not be happier. I got a new scope for it and am shooting dime sized groups at 20 yards with crosman premier ultra mag pellets. The heavier pellets have proved devastating for starlings, cow birds, and house sparrows. This gun loves heavier pellets

Pros
Power and accuracy

Cons
Scope and lazer

Fantastic rifle. Takes about 400 rounds to get broken in, but once it is it is sweet. VERY smooth cocking and firing cycle. Great power. Mine loves 10 grain Crosman Hollow points. The rifle requires the use of the artillery hold taught by Tom Gaylord and Stephen Archer on youtube. Happy Shooting!!

Pros
Good Feel Stock makes consistency easy power knock down energy overall feel

Cons
can be a little on the loud side (but not overly loud) heavy pellets solve this problem

New scope mounting, ( not in Photo) but good improvement
one of the problems before was the scope mounting would come loose

Also it Has a 40 lbs cocking not 30 lbs check Gamousa website

Using The Stoger Xspeed pellets makes this gamo varmint hunter HP

Pros
better scope mounting nice sounding Worth buying if money can be a problem The scope size is great for target Shooting up to 20 yards

Cons
a little Heavy ( if you like light) Harder to cock

Recently purchased this gun and I have loved it since it came out of the box.

With top speeds, and correctly matched pellets you can shoot half inch groups at 30 yards easily.

Only down side to this package was the scope. Its not so great. I would replace it when you can. Other than that great deal, I have shot a few squirrels, and doves with it so far and is a blast to shoot.

Wouldn`t suggest using the gamo flame pellets, as they tend to destabilize in flight and loose accuracy. Mine loves the RWS superdomes.

Pros
Everything

Cons
Factory installed scope

Does this gun come with the SAT silver trigger or the normal plastic trigger

asked john

Is the noise level Medium or loud?

asked lance

This is a loud rifle at first because of its tremendous power. Make sure to use extra heavy pellets to keep the rifle a little more quiet. Try out the JSB Exact Heavy

franciso from USA

What was your overall rating of this rifle? How did scope and light work? Did it have the power that is claims?

asked Butch

This rifle is outstanding. The scope is not suited for this rifle considering its power. So, get a better scope and heavy duty one piece mount. The laser and light are very nice. Yes, this gun has a lot of power but what really matters is accuracy. I f you use heavier pellets the rifle hits harder than if you use inaccurate pba pellets. Try out JSB Exact Heavy or H&N barracuda for tremendous power and accurary. P.S. The .22 version is more powerful and more accurate

Can you hunt at night with this?

asked Zach from USA

Where can I find the specs stating if this is straight bore or spiral bore - I exported a Gamo Varmin Hunter .177 with scope and laser light - 1400fps - and it is stuck in Customs. Customs claim it is spiral bore but the Outdoor Store where I purchased it stated it is STRAIGHT BORE. I need some documentation to prove it is straight bore.

asked KDD

Sorry on our specs page it says: Barrel Style -- Rifled (spiral bore)

I have been air gun hunting for about a year now and I'm wondering if I should get this rifle or the Benjamin trail np? What do you think?

asked bailey from USA

What is your opinion of the trigger on this rifle? I have heard lots of complaints about late model Gamo triggers. Thanks.

asked gabriel from USA

The trigger is a little tricky at first but it breaks in after a couple hundred shots. Don't get frustrated, if you practice you will find out that the trigger is not too bad.

franciso from USA

how accurate is shooting with the red dot sight mounted on the scope

asked david

hi its not a red dot sight its a laser it shoots good close range but goes bad at long range because you cant see it as well

James from USA

Can this kill a 25 pound coyote with a clean headshot Thank you

asked Josias

I think You might consider using the Gamo 22 Cal Varmint Hunter HP over the 177 cal Because the 22 Cal. can cause more Damage with the size of pellet If it was my choice of pellet the 22 cal Beeman Silver Arrows will Kill or Cause alot of Pain to a large varmint ( as far as killing a wolf or large Coyote ) it seems like the Larger would be the better choice ( 22 cal up to 90 feet away) ( 177 up to 100 feet away ) shooting distance

Steve from USA

Can the 177 gamo varmint hunter hp take down something as bis as a 55 pound coyote? I have coyote problens in my house. Thanks

asked Josias Alvarez

I would advise against shooting anything larger than a rabbit or raccoon with this, it just doesn't have the power for a humane kill under most circumstances. You really need a .22 rimfire or bigger for Coyote. You must also understand that pellets lose power very quickly, so at say 50 yards you will have about half the power (depending on the pellet). Typically the .22 pellet guns are a better choice for larger game, they usually have more power at the muzzle, and usually carry that power further. Again pellet choice is a big factor, but if you insist on using a springer to shoot a Coyote I'd get a .22 magnum, maybe a Benj XL, Hatsan 125, RWS 350 etc. I would also tune it for peak power, and if available buy the best spring for it. Then use the best pellet for the job which might be an 18-21gr like JSB or Barracuda with excellent BC for range. Best accuracy and a scope to make that shot count too. I'd only do between the eyes with a magnum on a Coyote.

Todd

is there any way to put a silencer on this rifle?

asked corey

Not legally. Airgun silencers/suppressors have to be permanently attached and can not legally be added later.
